I was brought into this job through Adom Kruger, master cabinet maker. Tearing out a simple wall opened the small kitchen to the rest of the living room and made such a huge difference. New windows, new flooring and Adom's new cabinetry helped transform this into a wonderful working environment. Beautiful customers, very nice to work with which makes all the difference.

It feels like home when I am working at this St. Paul home. I have remodeled three baths, a kitchen, an office and family room for them. They are wonderful people and doubly wonderful customers. Thank you Rita and Steve.
Family Room update, Edina, MN
A dear repeat customer called to ask me to make her family room more "Starbucks". We tore out the old nasty paneling and replaced it with knotty pine tongue and groove. Hage Concrete is covering the old brick with new decorative stone. We rewired for tv and cable and added new cupboards and counters for efficiency.

How very lucky to find new customers that not only open their arms and house to your dog but share books and music as well. We pushed out the back wall of the tub in order to accommodate a new wider whirlpool style tub. Adom Kruger custom built a perfect cabinet. Dave Ivers did his usual magic with tile and Stafford Electric and Levahn Bros plumbing came through in their usual professional ways. As long as we were there we were asked to replace a small balcony that was poorly designed and rotting off. Walt loved the extra time at his "new home".

This old stair was on it's last legs. We ripped it out and replaced it with something a bit nicer looking and FAR sturdier.

After many (too many) rounds of bidding we finally wound up essentially back at the beginning. We are doing some demo, constructing a 16' tall metal wall, installing new doors in new and old walls, painting and installing electric. A beautiful space for the new Cardozo Fine Arts Gallery.

Bath Remodel. Mpls, MN
Kind of close to home, this bath is in a rental unit that was once the primary residence of my now lovely wife, Tessa. The tenant realized there was a problem when the soap dish fell off and there was nothing behind it holding it on. Water had seeped in around the glass block and over time deteriorated the whole wall. Even the block completely fell apart as we were removing it. No choice but to strip it down to the studs and start over.

Living room remodel, St. Louis Park, MN
This beautiful home had a rather plain fireplace that the homeowner suspected might be hiding something different. Once we opened it up we discovered this beautiful stone jem. Needless to say everyone wondered at the choices of earlier owners to cover it up.
Elsewhere in the room we found the strangest ceiling framing imaginable. Trying to remove entry area pillars we wound up having to replace a 4x12 x 20' beam and getting really creative amid a horrible mess.
Then there was replacing the front door with a picture window and trying to make it seem as if it had always been a picture window. Of course they make windows differently now than they did fifty years ago so we had a bit of a go round until we got it right. Once the stone is in place you'll never know.

Friends at Vintage Lighting called me to expand their showroom size and to create a new work area for the lamp restoration they are so genius at. Working around ALOT of stuff and other people we are trying to do this in three phases to not interrupt their work.

My favorite customers (decades of work), asked me to panel their ding room to match two built-in's I constructed and installed a couple of years ago. We rerocked the ceilings as well and added new oak crown.

I love repeat customers. It says so much about the level of satisfaction we leave people with. This is a simple kitchen, fairly small. It is easier still as once again Jolyn at Crystal Kitchen Center is on the job. It helps, too, that the customer is on top of everything. We altered just one wall to gain some space, rewired everything but other than that no significant changes to layout.
An old small leak from a cut in the shower pan (vinyl liner under the floor tile) meant a complete tear out and re-do. New marble floor and walls will be visible through new frameless clear glass doors. New black granite countertops will accent the new tile.

Major remodel with a repeat customer. Gut the kitchen, tear out of back hall stairway and complete bath remodel. 46 sheets of rock for a remodel! Rebuild entire exterior brick wall. Excavated a new easement window, cut through the block and installed a good Marvin. Poly'ed the walls, framed and insulated and poly'ed again. Constructed new walls to define laundry, family room with computer area, furnace room and bath.

Historic district, Summit Avenue, St. Paul. Complete tear out of bath, rebuilding shared wall with bedroom to enlarge bath. New closet in bedroom allows for an expanded cabinet in bath.

First challenge was replacing an 18' bearing wall with a mighty laminated beam. Then it was tear out of the three rooms and opening the floor. Blocked up the four windows as they viewed the under deck side of the hot tub. All the old plumbing had to be ripped out and replaced as the laundry, bath and floor drains are being relocated.

We are re-doing this Summit Avenue bathroom in style. Here is more of Dave's fancy tile work. Tearing out the old tile floor and walls was a real chore - mud set at time 2" thick or more.
